Course Selection and Other Regulation

-Course Adding and Withdrawing

You have opportunities to change your schedule based on your personal needs. There is a certain time period each semester during which you can add a course. If you do not fit the teaching style of the instructor or you are not satisfied with your current grade, you can withdraw from a course.

1st – 2nd Week of semester:

1. Adding courses is only allowed during the first week of the semester.

2. This is the best time to withdraw from courses with no additional money or negative effect on your student record. Not only can you change an elective class, but you can choose another class that is taught by a different professor for the same compulsory course as well.

3rd-11th Week of semester:

1. No course-adding is allowed.

2. If you intend to drop one course, you need to get the written consent of the instructor as approval and receive a grade of “W” as a record of withdrawal.

3. If the withdrawn course is required, you have to retake it the next semester. In addition, you need to pay extra money for that course. The grade you receive first would remain on your permanent academic record. Only the latest grade will be used in computing your GPA. In other words, you still have the opportunity to improve your grade.

More details are available in Rider University’s Student Handbook under the section of Academic Guidelines.

-Course Selecting

Before you come to Rider, all the courses for spring semester are already registered by Jaime Smith Hall, who is the academic coordinator in Dean’s office. However, you can drop or change classes during the first week of spring semester. What you need to do is send your request to Ms. Hall. She will send you a list of elective courses and make changes to your schedule according to your email. At the end of spring semester, you will have to opportunity to select courses for the Fall Semester. The list of elective courses will be emailed to your Rider email by Jaime Smith Hall. After being accepted by the master program, the graduate academic coordinator in Dean’s Office, Heather McMichael will be in charge of your course selection and registration.
